Disease pressure in a propagation house builds up on surfaces that don’t get replaced between batches: benching, trays that are reused rather than discarded, irrigation lines, and tools that move from plant to plant. Algae and biofilm on benching and in irrigation lines are not just an appearance issue — they hold moisture and organic matter that pathogens use as a foothold, and biofilm inside drip or misting lines can also block emitters over time, which shows up later as uneven watering rather than as an obvious sanitation problem.

A basic between-batch routine covers four areas: bench and floor surfaces, reusable trays and pots, cutting tools, and irrigation lines — each needs a product suited to it, since a general surface disinfectant is not the right tool for biofilm inside a pipe. Footbaths and handwash stations at the entrance to a propagation house reduce what gets tracked in from outside, which matters more on a shared or multi-block site.

PropagAfrica’s sanitation range is built around this routine rather than a single all-purpose product — disinfectants and sanitizers for surfaces, dedicated algae and biofilm control for lines and benching, and PPE for staff moving between blocks. Packaging runs from 5L up to 1,000L IBC for sites large enough to dose centrally.
