STAGE 04 · PROTECT
Nursery hygiene.
Hygiene in a propagation house is not a cleaning routine. It is a written protocol with a strength, a contact time and a record — and for anyone exporting roses to Europe, it is audited.

The arithmetic is printed because the failure mode is a supervisor guessing a capful. A dip made at a tenth of the intended strength is not biosecurity, it is the appearance of it.
| Application | Target | Concentrate per 10 L | Contact time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tool dip, between plants | 1 000 ppm | 83 ml | 30 s or more |
| Footbath, refreshed daily | 1 000 ppm | 83 ml | on entry |
| Bench and surface wash | 500 ppm | 42 ml | 5 min or more |
| Irrigation line shock | 200 ppm | 17 ml | 60 min or more |
| Empty-house terminal clean | 2 000 ppm | 167 ml | 10 min or more |
Working: 12 % available chlorine is 120 g per litre. 83 ml carries 10 g. Ten grams in 10 litres is 1 g/L, which is 1 000 ppm.

Sodium hypochlorite, CAS 7681-52-9. HDPE packaging, compliant for road transport. Shelf life 90 days from manufacture at 25 °C or below, stored out of direct light — hypochlorite loses strength with heat and time, so every drum is dated and stock is rotated rather than held. Safety data sheet and certificate of analysis supplied with every consignment.
Farms exporting roses to the European Union work under a systems approach that became mandatory on 26 April 2025 under Regulation (EU) 2024/2004. Nurseries certified to GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance for Plant Propagation Material are assessed against control points covering hygiene procedure, cleaning of reusable materials, disinfection of equipment between batches, and the batch number of the substrate used. Those are the requirements this range is bought against.
